We need your help!
THIS is what we are working toward.

For the first time in North Minneapolis history, students and crew members from Minneapolis North High School, and now expanded to students in all Minneapolis High Schools, have been invited by the American High School Theater Festival (www.AHSTF.org) to participate in the chance of a lifetime: to take center stage at the world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival in **August 2022** (www.edfringe.com)! This Festival is celebrated as the #1 largest arts festival in the world where royalty and everyday joe join to experience the power of the arts!

Legacy Arts Group has teamed up with Springboard for the Arts as the fiscal agent to raise the money for this one-of-a-kind educational opportunity. Our fundraising goal is $50,000. Each cast and crew member require $6,300 tuition for the 2-week, 4 performance, 1 college credit experience. We want to ensure every student, regardless of their financial situation, will be able to perform for the world.

Together We Can! AHSTF has been curating high school theater groups for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for over 25 years and saw our work in the community compelling enough to invite us on this amazing journey. Our drive comes from the direction of Dance Teacher, Community Arts Educator and North Alumna, Tamiko French, who has partnered with 5 volunteer teachers, a number of local professional performing artists, and the Guthrie Theater who align with our mission to help build the next generation of artmakers in the Twin Cities.

This partner network has graciously donated space, time, and services to our cause. This select team of young voices has created an original production called “The Beautiful Ugly “, set to share in the Twin Cities and Edinburgh! Also, during this experience, the group will see theatre from all over the world! In the process, earn college credit, attend the International College Fair, and build relationships with 45 other high school performing arts companies from all over the US as well as many different countries.

We are unknown, underrated, and unseen. Yet even the underdog can rise. This opportunity does not come every day in the Minneapolis area. That is why we had to seize this prime opportunity. Our legacy of great performers is what fueled me to take on such a large endeavor in addition to my job as a teacher to serve additional needs focused on the opportunity gap in our community.

Between all volunteer teachers we have maintained professional and student performing relationships with Ordway Center for Performing Arts (Flint Hills Children’s Music Festival), Walker Art Center (performing arts exposure), Guthrie Theater(teaching artist partnerships), Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis Institute of Art (Family Day 2017, 2018, Prince Tribute), Festival of Nations (African American Cultural Group), and the State Fair(African American Cultural Group). Not to mention a host of performances at various community events around the city.

Legacy Arts Group has been featured on KMOJ radio station, Hip Hop Nation: First World TV, the State Fair, Orchestra Hall, and Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra stages. We were also awarded an Awesome Foundation microgrant for cast professional development in fall 2019. Also, featured in the North Newspaper as well as a Community Partner with the Guthrie Theater on their website. With this passion and momentum, Legacy Arts Group will have completed an original co-written and directed play, an original soundtrack, and a robust performance season on several major stages in the Twin Cities. Fulfilling a need for access, exposure, equity, cultural relevancy, student voice, as well as transferrable skills from the classroom, to the stage, and lived experience.
